Woah! I'm really loving the template/theme of this website. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's challenging to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and appearance. I must say you've done a fantastic job with this. In addition, the blog loads super quick for me on Safari. Superb Blog!

Oh--to answer your questions...I think watching wildlife 'suffer' because of how we are abusing the environment is my inspiration. Some things that I do...recycling/composting almost everything, bike as often as possible, use electricity at a minimum, pay attention to packaging for store bought items (don't buy over-packaged and NEVER buy bottled water!)...those are some of the day to day...

I've been away from blogland this week and so didn't get to post on blog action day. But I wanted to thank you for your post...I'm a wildlife biologist and so the major goals in my life are for conservation of species and protecting the environment. Yet sometimes I allow myself to slack and not live as impact free as possible. Reading some of the posts from Monday gave me that gentle reminder that I need to make it a conscious thought at all times. I'm impressed with your ideas (though that is the first time I've heard of a straw house...I'd like to hear more about that if you ever have the time) and with your drive. Thanks for caring!

I second buy local! Also, I refuse to buy bottled water. And drive as little as possible...live close to where you work and play, walk, bike, take public transportation whenever possible.

Beautiful pictures, btw!

We went to Slick Rock last year! Very pretty, although I was afraid the icicles would fall on our heads!

We're recycling everything we can and have cut out most of our conspicuous consumption. Need to do more though, there's still a bunch of "stuff" lying around!

My favorite ways to reduce impact...there are a lot. Biking to do small jobs without the kids. Bussing WITH the kids. Parking in one spot and walking to all my errands from there. Cleaning with baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, and earth-loving shaklee dish and laundry soap. Watering my plants with old undrunk drinking water, and cleanish dishwater, and last night's hot-water-bottle-water. Reducing laundry...I work hard at this, only use cold water, and invested in a front-loader for conservation reasons.

But realistically, the most important thing is raising two children this way - to a lower standard of consumption and a greater consciousness of their environmental footprint.
