I haven't had to do many provisional cast ons, so I hadn't explored all the versions. This is awesome! Thanks for sharing it. My only knitting-techno-geek hint is that you can use any size needle as the "holder" for the provisional cast on. The tension/gauge of your work depends almost completely on your working (right hand) needle. So if you're just knitting off the the holder, it doesn't matter what size it is. If I were doing this I would use a smaller needle (maybe several sizes smaller) as a holder because it will be easier to pull through the held stitches when you're ready to work them. okay: wow!
