I would definitely encourage comments. I think everyone loves them, established or not - they're just nice to get. I "know" most of the established bloggers (mostly because we started blogging at around the same time, which is pretty much what makes us "established" in most cases!), and every single one of them appreciates a comment. I am more likely to check out someone's blog and leave them a comment if they have stopped by to say hi, and generally if we go back and forth enough, we become friends. It's a nice way to get to know people. When you get a lot of comments it can be hard to keep up with everyone who stops in, but I know who my regulars are and consider them to be my pals.
