We could strike a deal with wayward kitties, say--leave scratch an X in the flower bed before you wander if you'll be gone a while but plan to return. That way we'd know when to immediately go into panic mode. My Sparky didn't come home last night, but I've learned not to worry with him unless he's still missing the next morning.
