Yarn Tastings, Fiber Festivals, and Socktoberfest, oh my!
Posted on | October 16, 2008 |
Just a quick little post before we packup and leave town (again). This weekend’s travels will take us dangerously close to Rhinebeck, but family priorities rule.
In addition to our local spinning guild which has been a wonderful source of new skills, friendship, and fiber camaraderie; I finally made it to a meeting of our local knitting guild on Monday night - and it too was great. The proprietress of the local Hillsborough Yarn Shop came to do a yarn tasting with us all:
YUMMMM! There is some really beautiful stuff in this mix (and quite reasonably priced) that I have never been exposed to before - my yarn experience is surprisingly very limited. It was great inspiration for some sketches I’ve been working on. For those of you in the area, Anne, the store owner is having a sale on Saturday to celebrate the anniversary of her shop opening AND breast cancer awareness month, as she happens to be a survivor. Timely, no? Too bad I will be out of town. I may try to convince Tad to sneak by there on our way out today - think he’ll go for it?
And, here is my progress to date on Kirsten’s Mystery Sock - I don’t think this is much of a spoiler at this point since I’m still on the first part of Clue 2 and Clue 3 came out yesterday (at least I hope not - my apologies - figuring out how to do the little spoiler thing was way beyond me!) My little sock is coming with me on the road and maybe I’ll catch up by next week!
See you in a week or so - I may manage to check in before SAFF! Are you going? I can’t wait!! Tad and I will be there at least partial days Friday and Saturday, if you see us, please say hello!
Are you attending any fiber festivals this fall?

Fiber Festivals? Not here in Germany where there is a total desert when it comes to that but our LYSs are getting better. We don’t have guilds here and the mags do not even say the designers name when showing the patterns….
If you live in Southern Germany you might get the chance to see the Wollmeise at a craft market but other than that: NOTHING
(on the other hand my stashing habits have gone out of controll, so it might be good that we don’t have fiber festivals!)

Have a great trip!
No Rhinebeck for me this year. I’m off to the West Coast tomorrow morning. There will be plenty of knitting time on the flight at least.
Your sock looks beautiful. I love it in the ivory yarn.

Ooh I love the sock. I wonder how far I am from Rhinebeck, maybe one day I’ll be able to go there, when I am healthy again
Oh my prize arrived today, I love the yarn. I even love the color… now to figure out what to make with it.
Ravelry projects here I come, lol

Aren’t guilds great? In SoCal we have the Spinner’s Guild Fiber Festival coming up in Torrance on November 2. It’s tiny but a nice tradition. I love the beginnings of your sock.
