The SAFF fly-by

Though our trip to SAFF this year (nearly a month ago now, really?!) was not much more than a fly-by, it was graced by a couple brief but great meetings that I wanted to share.
Brittany was one of the earliest and most enthusiastic supporters of my 3Day raffle, so when she mentioned that she and her husband would be at SAFF, I made a mental note of it and we sought them out. Brittany is the dyer and Wayne the potter and graphic designer behind Knit Witch, and it was so nice to meet them in person. They are warm and talented people (and committed – www.smallerfootprint.net – a resource website they have created, how awesome!) I would have come home with some of Brittany’s lovely yarn if I weren’t trying so hard to keep the yarn buying very focused these days, but I did slip up when it came to the yarn bowls. Ok, it was really quite intentional. I “tested out” the bowl that they so generously donated to the raffle….. uh… and by “tested”, I really mean that I commandeered it (How tacky of me…. I promise I did not “test out” any of the yarn prizes!) It held and protected the yarn for my September design project for the duration. And it was awesome. My yarn is usually regularly skipping out of my lap, onto the floor where it needs to be rescued from dogs and cat and their hair and all our DUST). I brought home this lovely handled version (which feels more like a piece of art than a knitter’s tool – as crafters I think we have a high level of appreciation for the handiwork of others), which is now happily holding the yarn for another project in development. Thank you, you two, it was wonderful to meet you, I’m so impressed and I know we’ll be seeing more of you as your business grows.
Gryphon, of course. I don’t know what I can say that I haven’t already. She’s incredibly kind and supportive in addition to being one talented woman (I’m afraid I may not have handled myself very gracefully when she introduced me as one of her “designers”, still uncomfortable with that designation and the whole self-promotion thing – a keen marketer and crowd worker I apparently am not!) The booth that she shared with Paula of Woolarina (herself a talented dyer and spinner, and whose handspun was particularly yummy) was one of the greatest there, I have to say (even though I’m slightly biased. Seriously, their setup was beautiful. Though I missed Gryphon’s spectacular getup on Saturday.) And that gorgeous yarn above, in the bowl? Do you have to ask?
And Kathryn, who we just happened to bump into and finally got to meet the kids as we flew by again on the way out of town. And who came to our rescue with a spare leash which she happened to have on hand (How we lost a leash in western NC after having the same ones for 6 & 8 years respectively I will never figure out. It’s kind of a necessary piece of doggie equipment, no?) Thank you Kathryn – we’ll get all the puppies together soon (and return that leash!)

Ooh, the yarn bowl is so lovely! Sometimes I feel really shallow, but I do think that having beautiful things around, even if they are effectively utensils, can make life just a little better.

Thanks so much for the compliments!!!! It was so great to meet you and your husband also. Always nice to meet “like minded” folk! We started planning our spring garden yesterday and we are so excited about the incresed sustainability of that! Woo hoo! I’m so glad you like the bowl – it really is beautiful! Mr. Man does good work!

Love your yarn bowl! I really should use mine but I’m usually too comfy to get up and get it, and Mack really likes to chase the rolling ball of yarn.

Beautiful bowl! My LYS has similar yarn bowls and I have been lusting after one.

Ahhhh… Black Star… how can you possibly go wrong with a Welch cover of a Radiohead tune. Truly one of my all time favorite songs.
And that bowl is absolutely gorgeous… the only thing preventing me from snatching one up this very moment is that doggone Christmas budget… gotta get everyone else finished up before I can indulge my own needs. ‘Cuz it is a _need_ not a _want_!! All that fur on the floor isn’t good for my yarn investment. And your picture just makes it look even that much more beautiful.
Sigh… must.. resist… temptation!

Your photo of the yarn bowl is lovely and enticing!
I never knew I needed something like a yarn bowl, but now I just might.
